Falooda on the streets of Mumbai

Monday, May 26, 2014

Ali and I were walking down the streets of Nagpada when we came across this seller, selling falooda.

There was a big crowd there, soon we were a part of the crowd.

We ordered and in a matter of two minutes falooda was served.
Falooda was served in a conical glass, it contained rose syrup, condensed milk, ice cream, vermicelli, dry fruit.

"Mix karo" said the vendor.
Falooda

We mixed it and in a matter of two minutes it was in our stomach.
This is one of the best falooda's I have had since ages.

It was just amazing to see a simple vendor selling such amazing Falooda at such a amazing price. Damages being Rs. 40 for two.

Seekh Paratha at Sarvi Restaurant at Nagpada in Mumbai

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

I headed to South Mumbai to have some Seekh Paratha.
Ali my foodie guide and good friend took me to Sarvi Restaurant located very near to the Nagpada Signal.

Like always there are no frills about this place, but it serves good food.

We comprising of Ali, Amit and me, sat there and in a mattter of minutes the waiter was around to take our order.

We ordered Seekh Paratha. This was the fastest delivery ever. In five minutes our order was served to us.

The Seekh was big in size was tender and was nicely cooked, what I also liked is that it was served in these tiffin boxes, which keep the food hot. So that the air conditioning doesn't cool them off.

The parathas reminded me of the ones I had in Parathewali Gulli in Delhi. By the look of it, it looks like a Bhature or a large Puri, but this is a different kind of Paratha, not the usual one's we eat.

The green chutney served along with it was also nice, though made of pudina, it tasted just right, couldnt stop my paratha from a holy dip in it. Also had onions, lemon and pudina for servings.

Overall it was a good food outing. I couldnt stop myself from wating three of each and finally my stomach could take no more.

Dinner at Hotel Shalimar

Saturday, May 3, 2014

As always Ali my foodie friend accompanied me to Hotel Shalimar, Hotel Shalimar is a chain of restaurants  spread across Mumbai. We visited the one near Bhindi Bazaar in South Mumbai.

As the time was 10 pm on my watch, we were on the watchout for a place to sit in the restaurant. Finally we got a place. Though the restaurant looks small from the outside, it is huge on the inside. No phone signals in the restaurant premises.

I let Ali order for the food of his choice. He ordered Mutton Mughlai and Bheja Masala with Roomali Roti.

In about 25 minutes time food was served.

I kick started with the Bheja Masala. The Bheja was nicely prepared. It was fresh and tender, the gravy was also tasty. Enjoyed with the Roomali Roti.

I then moved in to eat Mutton Mughlai, I am not a big fan of mutton, reason being that mutton always has bones in it.

Ali had informed me to have their preparation. The mutton was tender and nicely cooked, I enjoyed the gravy too, to top it we had all boneless pieces in our plate.

I loved the food so much that we ordered extra Roomali rotis to have it. Though the texture of both the items is the same, they differed in taste.

Finally we were done. The foodie experience was amazing, though the cost was a bit high, the entire meal costed as Rs. 567 for two.
Over all a good place to eat traditional Mughlai food in Mumbai.
